Bloomsburg Downs Kutztown in Field Hockey

BLOOMSBURG — A goal by Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/Lower Moreland) with 3:04 left in the second period was the difference, as the Bloomsburg University field hockey team defeated Kutztown University 3-2 on Tuesday. Teammate Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) assisted Vanartsdalen's game-winning goal. The victory over the Golden Bears gave Bloomsburg head coach Jan Hutchinson her 1,497th career victory combined between field hockey and softball.

The Huskies got on the board with less than 11 minutes left in the first period after Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) scored off an assist from teammate Kristi Ney (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East). Bloomsburg then increased it's lead to 2-0 after Venessa Witman (Oley/Oley Valley) scored on a penalty stroke and took that lead into the half. Kutztown then came back in the second period with goals by Lauren McCabe and Whitney Stum to tie the score at two apiece with 20 minutes left in the game.

.In goal, the Huskies' Tracey Hudak made 10 saves.

With the win Bloomsburg improves their overall record on the year to 12-1, 8-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they visit Slippery Rock for a 1 p.m. start.
